About me
Thomas W. Chiang is a proud Deputy Public Defender of over 15 years at the Office of the Public Defender for Maricopa County. In addition to zealously representing his clients and mentoring other attorneys, he has been passionately and actively involved in the Office's Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Respect Committee. Outside the office, Tom is on the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona as well as on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Asian American Bar Association where he has served as past President. He is also apart of the Equal Justice Initiative Committee through the State Bar of Arizona. Tom is a graduate of the Bar Leadership Institute of the State Bar of Arizona and has served on the Professionalism Advisory Council. He also is a graduate of the Valley Leadership Catalyze Program Class 1. Prior to his law career, Tom graduated from the University of Arizona, Rogers College of Law where he actively participated in both criminal law and the immigration law clinic where he argued in front of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel in Pasadena, CA.. Tom received his B.A. with high honors from the University of California, Berkeley. When not working, Tom enjoys travel, hiking and mountain biking, practicing hot yoga, and spending time with his wife and two girls. Tom's most recent interest is storytelling. Tom participated this past March in the first Racial Justice Impact Team's Community Storytelling Circle by the Valley Leadership Institute. Additionally,Tom was selected last August to be one of the storytellers for AZ Republic's Arizona Storytellers Project and performed his story on stage in front of a live audience at the Tempe Center for the Arts.
